"It's all about the mare."
|
In Holsteiner breeding, we believe "it's all about the mare". As you study Tabu's pedigree you will see the mare "Rhea" on her dam's side and the mare "Austria" on both her dam and sire sides. These are important mares in the history of the Holsteiner breed. It is the consolidation of the incredible genes passed from these two "Blue Hen" mares to Tabu that make her an outstanding Holsteiner broodmare.

The
carefully chosen mare "Rhea" was imported to the US by the remarkable
German horsewoman, Lieselott Wiendieck. Liesselott bred "Rhea" to
"Marlon" (one of the early British Thoroughbred stallions introduced to
refine the Holsteiner breed) which produced "Merlin" (judged the best
Holsteiner stallion in 1970) who was the sire of "Merano," who is the
sire of "Tabu's" mother. "Rhea" was also the granddam of "South Pacific" and Carpaccio. "Rhea"
and "Anblick" produced "Venetia," who won the individual Bronze Medal
in dressage and Team Silver in the 1972 Olympics.

Merano was known as a great broomare sire. He was dam's sire to Calvaro V, winner of the World Cup in Rome in 1998 and the silver medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 under Willi Melliger.

Austria is the Blue Hen mare of stamm 6085. She had four important daughters, Gustia, Olema, Franzoesin and Elma. When the daughters were bred, they passed the genetics to make international sporthorses.
Austria was bred to Aldato to make the mare Franzoesin. Franzoesin was bred to Lagos to produce Lenz Land of Kings, ridden to fame by Margie Goldstein-Engle. Lenz is the dam's sire of the approved stallion, Cotopaxi.
Austria was bred to Landgraf three times to make Gustia, Olema and the International Grand Prix showjumping stallion, London. Gustia was the mother of Hilltop's Cabaret and his full brother, Olympic Corlandus. Olema is the Grandmother of Tabu, who is passing on these genetics to her own offspring.
Austria was bred to Fanfar, a son of Fasching, to make the mare Elma who was then bred to Ronald to make Saluut I, the sire of two offspring who competed in the Atlanta Olympics. Saluut I has produced more than 312 successful showjumpers, 306 dressage horses, 362 graded mares and 16 graded stallions. No other stallion worldwide had offspring selected for both dressage and showjumping at the Atlanta Olympics.
